Park Boulevard on 14th Ave NW Ranked #1 by Parks Staff for Parks and Green Spaces Levy Opportunity Funding

17 06 2010

After a much needed 3 week vacation, I’m well refreshed and back into the swing of things again. Upon my vacation return, I was very pleased to learn that our application for Seattle Parks and Green Spaces Levy Opportunity Funds had been evaluated by Parks staff and ranked #1 out of 95 city-wide applications  submitted with a score 0f 82 out of 100!  Click here for the complete rankings.  Excitingly, out of the top ten list, 2 are from Ballard (the other being a street end park proposal for 24th Ave NW).

This past Monday, we attended an Open House at Magnuson Park to present our project to the Parks Levy Oversight Committee. All of the north end projects were allowed just 2 minutes each to make their presentations. Quite a stressful event for everyone involved! We looked very professional with our presentation boards. I now understand what my high school science fairs were preparing me for!

If you still want to learn more about our park proposal, check out our application.
If you want to join a winning team, then get involved!

The next steps in the city process are as follows:

  • September 2010 – Public Hearing on Project Prioritization and Funding Recommendations
  • January 2011 – Project Funding Recommendations to Mayor and City Council
  • March 2011 – Targeted City Council Approval of Project Funding Recommendations
  • April 2011 – Begin Project Implementation

Is there any update on the status of the city park application for 14th Avenue? Thanks. Tim

Hi Tim,

I just got saw a copy of the Parks Oversight Committee’s recommendations for Opportunity Funding,

You’ll see that our project is not on the list anymore. This is because The 14th Ave Park Boulevard project has now been officially moved into the running for Parks Levy Acquisition Funds for a Ballard Urban Village park. This is a much larger pot of money, $1.5 million and we have no competition at this time. This is great news for us, however, we have to jump through some hoops to get the funding switched over from acquisition to development funds since the city already owns the street. The first hoop will be the Parks Oversight Committee. Now that they’re done with reviewing Opportunity Funds, we’ll hopefully be next on their agenda. I’m going to try to get a post on the blog with more details within the next few weeks. Dawn.
